TAKING ACTION (SUMMER LEARNING JOURNEY W2 DAY 2 ACTIVITY 1)

For this activity, please imagine that you are Mr Mandela and that you are living at Robben Island prison. You have been given a journal and each night you write in it.
On your blog, write a journal entry imagining that you are Mr Mandela. What do you think he did each day? How did he feel? Include as much detail as you can in the journal entry.

JOURNAL ENTRY:
Dear Journal,
Life in prison is very brutal and cruel, I made alot of decisions that got me to this place in my life. The bed that is made out of Straw is verry uncomfortable, it feels like your sleeping on bricks. Sometimes I feel very lonely because I only get one person to visit me, or I only get a letter every 6 months. I've been struggling a lot but I've been trying my best to hold on.

Dear Jacinda (SUMMER LEARNING JOURNEY W2 DAY 1 ACTIVITY 3)

For this activity, please write a letter that includes the issue you have chosen, why you have chosen it, and what you would like our Prime Minister, Jacinda Ardern, to do about it. It is your job to persuade us (and her!) that it’s an important issue.

Dear Jacinda Adern,

My name is Sateki I come from Auckland & I am here to talk about the homeless, It is not right to see many people suffering to look after their children because they have no home or they don't have money. That cycle for homeless people will go on for Generations unless we stop it today. We could at least have shelter for these poor people, every day I go out to the shops there would be more than 10 people preforming or trying to entertain people for money to buy food. Maybe help from charities would make them feel better. The kids that are born homeless might have special talents for subjects we have here at school, maybe their good at maths, reading or even writing.
I ask that you may make a change in their lives.

Kind Regards

Sateki

Math Solving (SUMMER LEARNING JOURNEY W2 DAY 1 ACTIVITY 2

For this activity, we would like you to calculate Jessa’s age when she won the NAIDOC Youth of the Year award. She was born on 7 April 1985 and she received the award on 9 July 2010. Please provide the answer to this question in years, months and days (eg. 20 years, 6 months and 2 days).

She was born in 1985 I would see what number would get me to 2000 so I added 15, then there is ten years left so I would do 15 + 10 = 25 years. Then I looked at the month it said April, but she got the award in July so that is 3 months apart. Then I looked and she was born on the 7th & she got her award on the 9th, So she got it 2 days apart.

FINAL ANSWER: 25 Years / 3 Months / 2 Days

For this activity, listen to the podcast of Yusra Mardini, or read her story on her personal website.
On your blog, retell the story of this amazing young woman from Syria.

There was a girl named Yursa Mardini who was from a place of War & Fighting, so she decided to leave to find somewhere safe to live in Europe. Their journey was mostly on a boat, then rinding a dinghy heading for Greece their motor broke down. Yura was a professional swimmer & she didn't want anyone to drown this way. She, her sister & 2 other people courageously jumped in the water and swam for 3 & a half hours to open water to stop they dinghy from capsizing/Causing a boat to overturn. She saved 20 people that day & was invited to become an olympian of a refugee Olimpic team. She is now training for the Olympics in 2020 in Tokyo, Japan.
